Ogres: people feeding their flesh with the flesh of others
Hokusai was drawing a lot of ogres. Ogres are parasitic lifeforms. You find them in all societies on all levels. Big business, politics, small enterprise, churches and sects, among musicians and streetcleaners.
The Swiss psychoanalyst Leopold Szondi had the theory, that 17 % of all people - every seventh person - is a "Kainite", a person born with a killer instinct. Like Kain in the bible who had killed his brother Abel.

Szondi says that these persons cannot admit the urge in their blood. But they select environments which bring them close to their sadist obsessions: Politics - look at the near east - police, military, teaching, renting rooms. The tragedy is the fact that historic circumstances push the wrong people to power. They pull in others and evil accumulates. This explains the concentration of evil e.g. in Nazi-Germany.
In recent history, Nixon bombed Laos, much the same way as the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. The U.S. congress ordered Nixon to stop his bombing and gave a specific day (in 1971?) exactly at 12 AM sharp. I remember the news. Nixon continued bombing until the last hours. I see this as "joy of killing".
In Hokusais mangas we see a high percentage of ogres. I think he hated them more than anything else. They are the exact opposite of him. I share his hate.
